How To write A Play Script
Be it you're writing a play to be shown on television or to be performed on stage, it is good to put this few points in mind when writing.
* Start with characters:
Every play should be character driven. Because there is going to be a lot of talking between people, your characters should be as believable and as real as possible. Try to build tensions between characters. This simply means the characters need to have problems and it should show up in their behaviour.
* Consider the setting:
The setting of the play is where and when the story takes place. Here you need to be specific location and the time of the play as this goes a long way in affecting your budgets etc.
* Figure out the inner story:
The "inner" story of a play is the psychological conflicts happening within the characters. If your you have a concrete inner story, then you'll find it easier when writing the characters.
* Understand the limitation of the stage:
When writing a play, focus on the need to build tension between the characters, the language, and try make your characters into believable people.
* Read some drama scripts and see some productions:
Find time to read new drama scripts and also try to see new productions. This will broaden you knowledge and also help you when you want to write a play. As you read new play scripts and see new productions, you get familiar with new trends in play writing.
